Bayern Munich was too powerful for Lyon; German team moves to Champions League finals

Bayern Munich advanced to the finals where they will play against PSG on Sunday after they beat Lyon in the semifinals of the Champions League with goals from Sergei Gnabry in the 18th and 33rd minutes with goalscorer Lewandowski in 88th minute.

Bayern could have had a much harder task while Lyon opened the game brilliantly and had Memphis Depay and Toko Ekambi been a little more concentrated. The French put themselves firmly in the backline and then dangerously moved to the Bayern half with dangerous passes.

Depay escaped Bayern’s defense and bypassed Neuer, but went too far to the side and hit the outside of the net already in the 4th minute. The Bayern midfielder completely missed the ball when seven minutes later, Müller switched Lyon’s defense and employed Gorettzka beautifully.

Lyon had the biggest chance in the 17th minute of the first half. Toko Ekambi escaped Bayern’s defense, got rid of Alabe, and then hit the first post from the top of the box in a clean line. In the next attack, Bayern punished the misses.

Gnabry headed into the middle like Robben after he received the ball on the right. Gnabry beat Lopez with a strong kick from the edge of the penalty area when Lyon’s defense just stared at him.

The goal completely cut through the French who started to make mistakes, and Bayern played more and more confidently. With 33 minutes played, Perišić came in from the left and could have had the tying goal, but the defenders successfully repelled the attack by Lewandowski. However, the Pole incomprehensibly missed the goal and even the rebound, and Gnabry ran on the rejected ball and knocked it under the crossbar for 2: 0 and the solution of the match.

Lewandowski was a little late for Gnabry’s great cross though five minutes later he was in another good chance.

In the continuation, the tempo dropped completely, and Bayern kept their advantage without any major problems. Perišić broke out alone in front of Lopez in the 51st minute, but he shot straight at Lyon’s goalkeeper. Aouar took advantage of Boateng’s mistake in the 58th minute and found Toko Ekambi brilliantly on the second post, but Neuer defended his shot fantastically.
