Bayern Munich makes a great start to Bundesliga new season

German football club Bayern Munich has made a great start to the 2021-22 season. Playing with 10 players, they beat Grüther Fürth 3-1 in a Bundesliga football match on late Friday night, while Munich made a winning start by beating Barcelona 3-0 in the first match of the UEFA Champions League.

Bayern Munich continued their stellar run at home to last-placed Fürth in the league’s points table but star striker Robert Lewandowski, who has been scoring goals in their last 18 matches, failed to score a goal. Due to which his streak of scoring goals in a record 19 consecutive matches came to an end.

In the 40th minute of the first half, Lewandowski’s fine kick hit the bar of the goal post, missing out on equaling Gerd Müller’s record for goals in 16 consecutive Bundesliga matches. For Munich, two goals were scored in the first half by Thomas Müller in the 10th minute and Joshua Kimmich doubled the lead in the 31st minute.

However, Munich, who took a 2-0 lead in the second half, did not start well and their player Benjamin Pavard was handed a red card in the 48th minute for a foul. Despite playing with 10 players ahead in the match, the team did not weaken and Fürth team’s Sebastian Griesbeck scored a suicide goal in the 68th minute.

In this way, after 3-0 down, Fürth tried to make a comeback with Cedric Itten’s goal in the 87th minute, but in the end, it was not enough to win. Thus Fürth’s team failed to win their opening five matches in the Bundesliga. With the win, Munich is now on top of the Bundesliga with 16 points from six matches with five wins and one draw.
