In the match of 1/16 finals of the German Cup, Bayer Leverkusen defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 4-1 (1-1).
With Amin Younes taking a lightning-quick shot after the ball accidentally hit him after bouncing off Andre Silva, the visitors jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute of the match.
The Frankfurt team’s advantage lasted just over 20 minutes. Lucas Alario equalized from a penalty kick and both teams went into the break with the score tied 1-1. Shortly after the start of the second half, Edmond Tapsoba gave Bayer their first lead of the match 2-1.
The Burkian defender headed in after a throw-in from the side sector, where a free kick was taken. The Bayer scored a goal in the 67th minute, giving them a lot of peace of mind. Nadiem Amiri laid off to Moussa Diaby after a superb solo action, and the score for 3-1 was a formality.
In the end Jonathan Tah received a red card, which meant that the visitors ended the match playing in a weakened position. His foul had its advantages tactically, however, as he was offended even before the penalty area, preventing a one-on-one action with his rival.
Diaby scored to give Bayer Leverkusen a 4-1 win over fourth-placed Rot-Weiss Essen in the 1/8 final three minutes before the end of normal time.
