Earlier there were rumors about Lionel Messi retiring from Barcelona, but now president Josep Maria Bartomeu spilled the beans saying that he has “no doubt” that Argentina will sign a new contract with the club.
Messi, whose current contract is to expire in 2021, won the La Liga Golden Boot with 25 goals.
Bartomeu told Mundo Deportivo, “Messi has said he wants to retire here many times and I have no doubt he will re-sign”.
Recently, BBC Sport columnist, Guillem Balague reported that Messi had been “fed up” at the Spanish club.
The Barcelona star also said that at the club “things have to change.”
Barcelona finished five points behind Real Madrid champions of La Liga in the domestic season.
In the second leg of their Champions League, they will play last-16 tie with Napoli on 8 August with the score 1-1 from the first match in February.
On the front of the transfer, Bartomeu added: “We are now making decisions and if the players do not come as part of an exchange of players, it is very difficult for them to come in.”
