Barcelona has revealed their away kit for the 2021/22 season. The Barcelona jersey is a fusion of red and blue – light purple color, which commonly represents the fight for gender equality. The club and sponsor logos are embedded on the chest corners in dar purple with a shimmering effect.
The new shirt of Spanish giants Barcelona is very different from the black and gold Kaizer Chiefs-like away jersey from last season. Ever since the departure from the vertical Blaugrana and brief adoption of horizontal stripes in 2015-16, Barca’s home kit has been a canvas for experimentation.
Barcelona published a statement to explain their idea behind this unique away kit. “FC Barcelona presents its away kit for the 2021/22 season with a design that promotes women’s empowerment.”
“The design, however, still incorporates the traditional Barça stripes on both sides. To reinforce the Club’s commitment to women’s sports, Barça adapted the originally masculine phrase of the Club’s anthem ‘Tots units fem força’ (United we are strong) and stamped the feminine version on the side of the jersey.”
The release of the uniforms coincides with Barcelona’s 50th anniversary of the women’s team. Hence, the club notes that the uniform design promotes the fight for women’s empowerment and underlines Barcelona’s commitment to the development of women’s football and the role of women in sport.
“To celebrate that milestone, a few of those pioneers who played at the Stadium have been incorporated into the campaign to launch the new kit together with Barca Women’s players Aitana Bonmati, Jennifer Hermoso, Marta Torrejon, Alexia Putellas and Caroline Graham Hansen.”
Sports brand Nike continues to be Barcelona’s technical sponsor. Fans will be able to find the new jersey exclusively from July 15 to July 20 at the Barça Store and the Club’s e-commerce, before going on full retail.
