Barcelona studying the option of signing a low-cost center-back, Eric García is possible option

Barcelona is in a state of crisis. Both Gerard Piqué and Sergi Roberto sustained injury and with that Ronald Koeman is suddenly left without proper cover in the backline. Of course, Samuel Umtiti is not exactly the most reliable either so dipping their toes into the market might have to do.

The Catalans are studying the option of signing a low-cost center-back in the winter to patch up the squad, according to a recent update from Sique Rodríguez, a reliable source from Carrusel Deportivo.

At the moment, Manchester City player Eric García is the obvious target and even though there’s no real mention of price right now, he seems to be their best bet.

Of course, this is not really the first time we hear this story but the situation has never been as complex and as serious as it is now. Barcelona won’t exactly have a choice for that reason, and will have to use the transfer market as the only possible solution.

But still, they also want to avoid signing someone purely as a stop-gap defender, meaning that yes, they will aim for a cheaper player but also someone that could actually play for the team. And needless to say, García fits the bill and is looking like someone for both the present and the future.

First, however, they will have to negotiate a fair deal with Man City and with the club once again being desperate to sign someone, the Citizens may have more negotiating power in their hands.
