Barcelona has been using Camp Nou since 1957, and Agusti Benedito believes it is time for the club to get a new stadium and has promised to do everything to make it happen if he gains the trust and becomes the club’s new president.
“If I win the election, I will build a new stadium,” Benedito said and adding:
“We considered two options. The first is to tear down the Cam Nou and build a new stadium right there. That would mean that in the next three years the team would have to play at Montjuic. The second option is to play at Sant Joan Despi (Johan Cruyff stadium). These proposals would go to the vote in the first year of office if we win the elections,” Benedeto said, writes Mundo Deportivo.
Barcelona presidential candidate Agusti Benedito believes Barcelona should build a new stadium.
Architect Benedetta Tagliabue explained that renovating Camp Nou would be completely pointless.
“It’s hard to rebuild on 65-70-year-old structures. The question is whether it’s worth doing because we don’t know what surprises we may encounter. If we run into problems, it would significantly increase costs. It happened in English stadiums.” she said.
Elections for the presidency of Barcelona are scheduled for January 24.
