Barcelona president in negotiations with Ronald Koeman

Josep Maria Bartomeu is seeking to change the crisis situation in Barcelona and has agreed to take the bull by the horns.

He has decided not to leave and to schedule elections in March 2021. He’ll probably axe Setien and Abidal, the sporting director, before finding a replacement. For now, the name he has picked is Ronald Koeman, Sport.es reports.

Koeman has been contacted directly and invited by Bartomeu to take the squad under his wing. His arrival will not be easy, and there are various aspects to consider.

Firstly, he’s got a contract with Holland. He has a release clause that would allow him a transfer to Barca, but only after next year’s Euros.

The second thing is Koeman is however unlikely about transferring to Barca. The team needs to be cleaned out and there is no money for signing.

This is not the time to concentrate on Barca, he said and a lot can change in football though, and quickly.

The main problem is: Koeman wouldn’t have been arriving for 10 months. He’d only quit for a major sporting project, suggest, three years of decision getting authority.

If Bartomeu signs, it potentially conflicts with the next president of the club, who will take over in July 2021.
