Barcelona has appointed Xavi as their new head coach after the dismissal of Ronald Koeman, who filled in the place of Quique Setién in 2020. Xavi moved from Qatar football club Al-Sadd to Barcelona where he had spent 17 years of his senior career from 1998 to 2015. Taking over the new responsibility Xavi suggests Blagurana club to move on as Barcelona has mourned the loss of Lionel Messi. Barcelona president Joan Laporta managed to bring in former Barcelona player Xavi to the club as manager.
New manager Xavi insists he will try to get more out of the players at his disposal. He believes the club should not focus on Lionel Messi’s departure because the club has others who can step in and fill the vacuum left by the superstar striker. one of the most important challenges facing Xavi is to make the most of the attacking players at his disposal after being officially introduced as Ronald Koeman’s successor on Monday.
While the former Barcelona midfielder wishes he could call on Messi and other former teammates, he prefers to focus on the future rather than the past. “I’d have liked to have managed Messi, of course, and also Samuel Eto’o, Ronaldinho… but they are not here,” he said at a news conference.
“I still have a close friendship with Leo, that is well known. He has written to wish me luck. As always, he has joked around. He is a real joker. I wish him all the luck in the world. He is the best player in the history of football and obviously the history of this club, but we do not have him. We have other players that need to perform and be good in his place; players who can make a difference on the pitch. We cannot think about the players we do not have.”
