On the transfer window deadline day, Barcelona was unable to bring Memphis Depay or Eric Garcia yet the Catalan club is unlikely to be overly disappointed.
Barca was unable to unload Ousmane Dembele to Manchester United thus these deals could not be completed.
Apparently, the Frenchman’s reluctance to agree to an extension of the contract with Barca, thus giving him a better resale value at the end of any loan agreement with the Red Devils, seems to be what scuppered the move.
In any event, it should actually work more favorably in the long term for the Blaugranes, while the Depay and Garcia deals have been held up.
According to Mundo Deportivo that’s because both players will be free to negotiate their exits from Lyon and Man City in January, and they will also be able to sign up as free agents.
In the meantime as long as Barcelona is doing relatively well, the pair will join a side that is still up in January.
