Atletico Madrid secured a victory over Real Sociedad on Wednesday at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in the Spanish capital. With this success, Atletico Madrid has leveled up in winning the Spanish football title La Liga.
Belgian striker Yannick Carrasco played the opening goal in the 16th minute for Diego Simeone’s team. In the 28th minute, Angel Correa doubled the home team’s lead. Real Sociedad only managed to mitigate the defeat with a goal by Igor Zubeldija by the end of the match in the 83rd minute.
Two rounds before the end, Atletico Madrid has a four-point advantage in La Liga over Barcelona, while Real Madrid is five points behind, but it also has a game less. Sevilla has dropped out of the race for the trophy, despite a 1-0 win over Valencia, as mathematically they can only equalize with Atletico who are better in head-to-head matches. In the last two rounds, Real Sociedad must defend the position leading to the Europa League, the team is standing fifth with 56 points.
Huesca saved from relegation
Huesca temporarily got out of the relegation zone from La Liga after achieving an important victory at home defeating Athletic Bilbao with a minimum of 1-0 score. Ramirez scored the goal for Huesca in the 61st minute. The team reached its seventh victory of the season and jumped 33 points to 17th place, with two points more and a game more than Valladolid, which will host Villarreal on Thursday. Elche is penultimate with 30 points, and Eibar is at the back with 29, but also a game less.
Celta won fourth game in a row
On Wednesday, with a goal from Nolit in the 24th minute, Celta Vigo achieved its fourth consecutive championship victory defeating Getafe. Celta is in eighth place with 50 points and only two points separate it from the placement in European competitions for next season.
