Aston Villa Premier League game against West Ham

West Ham defeated Aston Villa 2-1 and secured their third straight Premier League game after Ollie Watkins missed a late penalty and had a VAR ruled-out injury-time equalizer for a very close offside.

Angelo Ogbonna opened the scoring in less than two minutes out, the quickest Premier League goal for West Ham since November 2016.

With a superb corner, Jarrod Bowen got the assistance and he was involved again a mere 29 seconds into the second half when a half-time sub Said Benrahma looped the ball into him to head off.

Both goals came as a shock to a Villa side who otherwise dominated the game and produced plenty of chances with the speed and trickery of Jack Grealish and Trezeguet.

Unsurprisingly, in the 25th minute with a deflected shot from range into the top-left corner, it was Villa captain Grealish who equalized for the visitors.

Watkins lost the opportunity to equalize for a second time when he whacked the crossbar with his 74th-minute penalty after Trezeguet went to the ground while having his jersey pulled in the box by Declan Rice.

The striker then had a goal thrown out in injury-time for a close offside call as West Ham stayed on to climb up to fifth in the table.
