This summer Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta “would love” to keep David Luiz at the club.
In recent weeks there has been a host of speculation about the future of the center-back whos existing deal at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
Upon his arrival from Chelsea Luiz was originally thought to have entered into a two-year deal with the Gunners, but the defender’s agent recently revealed that the contract with the 33-year-old would expire this summer.
Arteta confirmed he was keen on keeping the Brazil international at the club going into next season, speaking ahead of the Premier League clash with Manchester City on Wednesday.
“I’m really happy with David, I want to keep him here with us. He’s been a key role model since I joined. I like what he produces on the pitch, I like his influence around the players and the club – I would love to keep him,” Arteta told to the press.
This season Luiz scored twice and provided one assist in 32 appearances for Arsenal.
