Arsenal experience disappointing Premier League season

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan scored in the first ten minutes of the Premier League match against Arsenal due to a cross from his teammate Gabriel Jesus, placing an undisputed header in front of Gunners goalkeeper Bernd Leno to propel his team. Arsenal’s shortfall continued throughout the match, with defender Cedric Soares failing to clear the ball and allowing rival Ferran Torres to score in the 12th minute. And things turned worse for Arsenal in another Premier League match, with captain Granit Xaka booking himself for a foul.

England star Jack Grealish, who signed City from Aston Villa earlier this month, also took advantage of Arsenal’s shortcomings, leaving Callum Chambers behind to install Gabriel Jesus for City’s third. Torres and his Spanish teammate Rodri scored two goals in the second half to end their team’s victory in City’s second 5–0 victory.

Arsenal has recently struggled with a historic stalemate – notably a 2-0 loss to newly-promoted Brentford at the start of the season – but the Gunners have yet to score in three league games, for North London. A very weak form continues. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta told Arsenal media after the match: “I want to thank the 3,000 fans who came here today to support them on such a difficult day. Coming here, starting out and competing well and then going down to 10 men is very mentally demanding, so we have to manage the game as much as we can,” he said.

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also told BT Sport “it will not be easy” for Arteta to motivate the team after Saturday’s match. “It will be difficult, but, as I said, we are a team and we have to stick together this time. And as senior players, we have to show the way to the younger players as well. I know it won’t be easy. But we will try to give everything that we can,” he said.
