Andrea Pereira may be suspended in Brazil to violate quarantine rules

Manchester United midfielder, Andrea Pereira, now on loan at Flamengo, is likely to be suspended in Brazil if he is found to have violated COVID-19 quarantine procedures. On August 20th Pereira switched to Flamengo, the defending Brazilian champions, when UK visitors were required to self-isolate for 14 days.

However, Pereira made his Flamengo debut barely a week after the move was completed, scoring off the bench in a 4-0 win over Santos, prompting action from Brazil’s Superior Sports Court for Football. The midfielder was a member of Manchester United’s preseason squad and spent the summer in England.

Early in the morning, it was stated that his loan was declared, and that he was travelling to Brazil that day, and that he had not already spent some time in isolation in Brazil. According to a statement from the Superior Sports Court for Football, a disciplinary hearing will be held on October 8th, with the player facing penalties.

Pereira signed documents promising to follow the guidelines when he came, as evidenced by a record from the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency, according to the court. The court has stated that it will not conduct an investigation into facts that have already been “substantiated.”

Flamengo has been asked to submit an epidemiological questionnaire in connection with Pereira’s selection for the match against Santos on August 28th, as well as documentation completed by the player upon his arrival in Brazil.
