Andre Schürrle chose to retire from football

Yesterday German footballer Andre Schürrle announced that he is retiring.

Schürrle scored one goal in 13 appearances at Spartak Moscow and made his last career engagement.

The football world is in shock with news, knowing that he is only 29 years old and he certainly has a few more years of top football left, although his career has been in free fall in recent years.

He has scored 16 goals in the last four seasons and felt the best days are far behind him: “The decision has been maturing for a long time. The downfalls are getting deeper and more numerous and the ups are getting weaker. You always have to play a role in this business, otherwise, you will lose and you will not find a new one.”

In his career, Schürrle played for Mainz, Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg, Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund, Fulham, and Spartak. He won the German Cup with Wolfsburg and Borussia and he won the Premiership in a Chelsea jersey. As many as 57 times he played for the German national team, scoring 22 goals.

He also became the world champion with the national team at the championship in Brazil in 2014, scoring two goals in an incredible semi-final victory against the hosts of 7:1.
