Ajax forgot to register Sébastien Haller

Ajax failed to sign the former West Ham striker. On Thursday, the coach Erik ten Hag said Ajax will do everything possible to make their record £ 20 m signing Sébastien Haller usable for the Europa League knockout rounds.

Yet he acknowledged that an administrative mistake would potentially cost the club a crucial figure in their push to win the title, citing a computer malfunction for leaving the 26-year-old for the remainder of the season from the team additions.

“It is of course incredibly annoying,” Ten Hag said according to The Guardian. “Firstly for the player, but also for us. Of course, we haven’t signed him for nothing? Haller was indeed on the list, but it is an administrative error. Something went wrong with the computers, just a checkmark on and off.”

“In the first instance, [technical director] Marc Overmars and I are responsible. Of course, people make mistakes, but this is a top sports organisation. This mistake should never have happened.”

“Haller is of course also very disappointed. Although he also understands that this was not done on purpose.”
