Roman Abramovich, Chelsea owner has penned an open letter to the team’s players amid racist slurs against defender Reece James.
“I am appalled by these racist insults. We cannot allow this to continue unhindered,” quotes Abramovich BBC.
“I know that some of our players have been the targets of hatred and discrimination on social media. It comes as a shock to me that only a few days after Holocaust Remembrance Day, [it appears that] we as a society do not seem to have learned the lessons of our shared past and the consequences to which hatred and discrimination can lead.”
“I have instructed the management to increase the club’s efforts in this area and I will personally direct more funds to this important work. In the coming days, we will draw up a plan for our next steps.”
