2022 World Cup qualifiers: highlights from Portugal vs Azerbaijan

Portugal dominated the World Cup qualifiers meeting from the start. Azerbaijan lost to Portugal 0:1 (0:1) in the match of the first round of World Cup qualifying in Group A. The only goal was scored by Maksim Medvedev, who scored into his own net.

Already in the 10th minute, Ruben Neves was close to a goal.

After a while, the only good opportunity in this part of the meeting had the guests. Shakban Magomedaliyev struck just outside the post, but the ball was caught by the goalkeeper.

In the following minutes Domingos Duarte, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Joao Cancelo had chances on goal, but there was still a draw after two-quarters of an hour.

The Azeris made a simple mistake in the 36th minute. Maksim Medvedev intervened so awkwardly that he ended up in his own net. In the end, Portugal led 1-0 until the break.

Bernardo Silva, in the 67th minute, decided to take a shot. The Portuguese were close to beating the goalkeeper, but he finally intervened successfully. Ronaldo also tried his luck in the 86th minute, but the goalkeeper was ready for that.
