Europa League

Rangers 2-2 BVB (Aggregate 6-4)

What an incredible victory for the Rangers, who fully deserve to go through after their performances across the two legs.

It was a sluggish first half from the hosts, who found themselves somewhat fortunate to only be 2-1 down following some energetic, high-tempo football from Dortmund.

However, the second half was different as Rangers dominated from start to finish and didn’t give their opponents much chance to draw level in the tie.

Tavernier scored his second of the night with a thumping volley, and they could have had more after Kent’s goal was harshly ruled out for a foul on Can moments after.

They then comfortably saw out the rest of the game, much to the delight of a packed Ibrox.

Starting Lineup:

RANGERS (4-2-3-1): Allan McGregor;

Calvin Bassey, Connor Goldson, James Tavernier, Borna Barisic;

John Lundstram, Ryan Jack; Joe Aribo, Ryan Kent, Scott Arfield;

1-0 Rangers. Tavernier skips up to the spot and slots the penalty straight down the middle of the goal, into the roof of the net! The keeper was nowhere near it as he dived away to his right.

1-1. Malen’s shot deflects off a defender and runs straight into the path of Bellingham with just the keeper to beat. However, he makes no mistake and slots it calmly past McGregor at his near post.

2-1 to Dortmund. Reus whips in a cross from the right that evades everyone, and Brandt picks up the ball and slides it across the six-yard box. It takes a few deflections and falls to the feet of Malen, who taps it home from close range.

2-2. Ibrox erupts. Bassey does brilliantly escape the attentions of three Dortmund defenders on the left and whips a great ball into the area. A Dortmund defender is sliced up in the air and falls straight to Tavernier at the far post. He makes no mistake and volleys home emphatically.
