Europa League

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Barcelona

The referee blows the whistle on an absorbing first leg, with the game finishing 1-1 between Eintracht and Barca.

The visitors nearly took the lead after just three minutes, but an excellent save from Trapp was enough to tip a Torres shot from a distance wide as it looked destined for the top corner.

The hosts themselves should’ve been in front minutes later, but Sow showed a lack of composure as his first-time effort in space in the box went wide.

The referee awarded a penalty to the German side late in the first half after Busquets brought down Borre.

However, a VAR check showed that the Spanish midfielder got a toe to the ball, and the decision was overturned to ensure the game went to the break goalless.

That changed early into the second half when a corner was only headed out to Knauff on the edge of the box.

The wide man took a touch before lashing a brilliant effort past the diving Ter Stegen to give his team the lead.

They were pegged back, though, on 66 minutes, when an excellent move ended with De Jong squaring for Torres.

What a goal!!! A superb strike from Knauff has put his side into the lead. A corner from the right was headed out, but only to Knauff outside the box. The wide man takes a touch before firing a half-volley at goal. Ter Stegen is at full stretch and is still nowhere near the ball as it flies into the top corner as the scoreline is now 1-0 to the hosts.

The visitors are level!!! It’s a brilliant team goal, like Dembele, De Jong and Torres all link together with one-touch passing before the last digs a shot into the bottom corner to make it 1-1.

So, what’s next?

The tie is finely poised ahead of the second leg in Barcelona, and both sides will fancy their chances of making it through to the competition’s semi-final.

Both teams will first have domestic duties, with the Spanish side travelling to Levante in LaLiga.

While Glasner’s men will host SC Freiburg before the teams do battle again in the second leg on April 14.
