Manchester United’s purge looks to be in full swing. Three players have been connected with exits in the last 12 hours, with manager Erik ten Hag apparently giving the green light in a potential triple deal.
Who may leave the club?
According to Fabrizio Romano, Eric Bailly and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been told they may quit the club.
Departures will be determined by the offers received.
According to the MEN, Dean Henderson is also in talks with Newcastle.
He may be the first to go, with all options on the table, from a permanent move to a loan.
A triple sale would send a strong message.
Although departures are contingent on adequate offers, Manchester United’s intentions appear to be apparent.
The club is prepared to approve transactions.
Erik ten Hag started as manager this week and has been hard at work setting up his team.
And it looks like decisions about the team are already being made.
Allowing a triple sale at this point would be a brutal message from Ten Hag that he intends to downsize his team.
Scott McTominay says he couldn’t relax this summer because of the impending arrival of Ten Hag.
United had to cancel the end-of-season awards presentation due to the bad season.
No player must believe they are safe.
Early sales will set the tone for the summer ahead. United’s squad is too big, and even with players set to leave on free transfers, there needs to be a clear-out to make space for new arrivals.
Selling helps to buy.
It’s a moot question whether you think United should sell Henderson, Wan-Bissaka, or Bailly.
It’s especially controversial in Henderson’s situation. However, the new management is free to do anything he wants.
And their departures would be symbolic, marking the beginning of Ten Hag’s overhaul.
United’s transfer budget also has to be increased to do the ‘open heart surgery’ that Ralf Rangnick suggested the club need, both on and off the field.
We calculated how United could more than quadruple their stated £120 million transfer budget this summer by selling nine players for £120 million.
Henderson, Wan-Bissaka and Bailly make up a substantial part of this, and selling them early, would help Manchester United’s cash flow to get incoming deals over the line as quickly as possible.
