Sweden came from behind to take the win on Thursday, while goals from Alexander Isaacs and Viktor Klassen gave their side the perfect start to qualify for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Spain was undefeated in 66 games of World Cup qualifiers but lost this one against Sweden. The Spanish football team took the lead in starting four minutes when Jordi Alba picked up a brilliant ball in the box for debutant Carlos Soler to hit the net.
But the celebration lasted only a minute as shortly after the resumption of play, Isaac won the ball outside the Spanish box and fired a shot into the bottom corner. The second goal of Sweden came in just 10 minutes into the second half, as Spain failed to clear the corner; Dejan Kulusevski managed to find Klaasen, who hit a shot near Unai Simon’s near goal.
Spain had the opportunity to equalize through Adama Traore, while Isaac was denied a second goal through a brilliant attack by Aymeric Laporte. However, the final score was 2–1 in favor of Sweden. Watch football highlights of the World Cup qualifiers match in which Sweden beat Span.
The Swedish football team is now registering seven consecutive home victories in World Cup qualifiers, including victories over France and Italy. It has moved up to the top of Group B with Spain in second place ahead of Kosovo, Greece, and Georgia.
