Barcelona could have acquired Kylian Mbappe in 2017 revealed football agent Junior Minguella.
The then Monaco forward, was close to a move to the Catalan club, but in the end, the Blaugrana opted for Ousmane Dembele, according to Minguella.
“Yes, it was like that, I confirm. It’s the real truth. Then my father found out that Neymar had agreed on a deal with PSG and was leaving. But the Barca managers either didn’t know or didn’t believe it, and Neymar at that time had not yet confirmed that he was leaving, so the club wasn’t going to do anything until Neymar left,” quotes Minguella Marca.
“When it was confirmed that Neymar was leaving, the coaches and president Bartomeu had doubts about which player to take on as his replacement. At the time, they felt that Dembele was a better fit for the team than Mbappe. It went as far as saying Mbappe was nobody.”
“We negotiated a transfer for Mbappe and agreed to a deal for 130 million euros plus 25 million in bonuses. He himself would have earned 10 to 16 million.”
