Emmanuel Adebayor says to get past Manchester City, Real Madrid and Cristiano Ronaldo should have had more chances.
Cristiano Ronaldo should have favored Real Madrid to overcome a first-leg deficit in their Champions League tie against Manchester City, according to Emmanuel Adebayor.
On the back end of February, Los Blancos lost 2-1 in the first leg of the last-16 clash at the Santiago Bernabeu, with the return game postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Nevertheless, Madrid was excellent when LaLiga resumed in June, winning 10 and drawing their final game on the way to pip Barcelona to the title, their first since the season 2016-17.
Before leaving for Juventus in 2018 Ronaldo won the Champions League four times with the Spanish club.
Former City and Madrid striker Adebayor says the side of Zinedine Zidane still has the players capable of turning the tie around but Ronaldo’s presence would have improved their chances significantly.
“If you had asked me that question two years ago, I would have said yes [Madrid can turn the tie around],” Adebayor told AS.
“Madrid would have been favorites with Cristiano. Back then, they had Cristiano, who is a goal machine. He can make the difference at any moment and he would give the team 50 goals a season.”
