The initiative group led by Durango proposed to place the image of Maradona on one side of the banknote, and on the other – the famous Argentinean goal scored in the quarterfinal match of the 1986 World Cup against England.

Maradona died on 25 November at the age of 60.

Argentinean senator Norma Durango suggested placing the image of legendary football player Diego Maradona on a 1,000-peso note.

Durango said to Reuters that “the idea is not only to pay tribute to a person important to our country, but also to the economic issue. We think that tourists who come to Argentina will want to take a piece of Maradona with them.”

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
