Douglas Luiz says Coutinho is happy with Aston Villa. According to Douglas Luiz, Philippe Coutinho is “extremely content” at Aston Villa and isn’t in any hurry to return home despite being linked to Corinthians. The 30-year-old playmaker has battled with form and health since leaving Liverpool for Barcelona during the 2018 winter transfer window. He was not selected for his nation’s World Cup squad to compete in Qatar in 2022.

In January 2022, Coutinho returned to England, initially on loan. However, it is proving tough to reignite the spark, and there have been rumors that Coutinho may head back to South America now that a new job market has opened up. In order to compete at the greatest level before one day returning to Vasco da Gama, Coutinho’s teammate and fellow Villa player Luiz does not see him going back to his roots anytime soon.

As Luiz stated to ESPN Brazil, “Really, he is content. We always discuss returning to Vasco together and make jokes about it. He’s content here, but I hope we can play together there someday. For now, this is where our attention is. He’s currently 30, and players can continue to perform at a high level until they are 35. So, I don’t believe he’s in a haste to travel to Brazil at this time. And he went there and posted it on social media because, given the club’s priorities in Brazil, rumors will circulate, perhaps much more so when the window is open. They believe he actually wants to leave and join another team because he isn’t playing here.”

Although Coutinho has made 34 appearances for Villa and scored five goals, he has only been able to make six Premier League starts this season, and former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard has been replaced by former Arsenal boss Unai Emery in the dugout at Villa Park.

Following a Wednesday derby match against Wolves, Villa will be back in action. On Sunday, they will face League Two team Stevenage in the third round of the FA Cup.
