Arsenal starts their Premier League campaign with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

They made a bright start to the game and capitalised on that when Martinelli nodded in from a corner in the first half.

Palace grew into the game as it went on, with Edouard and Eze forcing good saves out of Ramsdale.

Arsenal rode out the pressure, though and sealed the win late on through Guehi’s own goal when Saka’s cross deflected in off him.

Starting lineup:

CRYSTAL PALACE STARTING XI (4-2-3-1): Vicente Guaita;

Nathaniel Clyne, Joachim Andersen, Marc Guehi, Tyrick Mitchell;

Jeffrey Schlupp, Cheick Doucoure; Jordan Ayew, Eberechi Eze, Wilfried Zaha;

Odsonne Edouard.

CRYSTAL PALACE SUBS: Jairo Riedewald, Sam Johnstone, Joel Ward, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Will Hughes, Luke Plange, Luka Milivojevic, Malcolm Ebiowei, Chris Richards.

ARSENAL STARTING XI (3-4-1-2): Aaron Ramsdale;

Ben White, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes;

Bukayo Saka, Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, Oleksandr Zinchenko;

Martin Odegaard; Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli.

ARSENAL SUBS: Matt Turner, Cedric Soares, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Mohamed Elneny, Rob Holding, Kieran Tierney, Nicolas Pepe, Reiss Nelson, Eddie Nketiah.

MARTINELLI SCORES! Saka’s looping deep cross picks out Zinchenko, who is completely unmarked at the far post. He nods it back across goal, and it’s too high for Partey, but Martinelli is waiting behind him to nod it under Guaita and into the bottom corner. 1-0 Arsenal!

OWN GOAL! Arsenal quickly works it upfield and switches it from left to right, with Nketiah spreading it to Saka. He takes it past Mitchell before trying to cross it into the middle, but a deflection off Guehi takes it past Guaita and into the back of the net instead. 2-0 Arsenal!

So, what’s next?

Arsenal gets the first points of the season on the table.

And they’ll be hoping to build on this when they host Leicester City next weekend.

There are positives for Vieira to take out of this game.

But Crystal Palace has to wait ten days before their next outing against Liverpool.
