Cristiano Ronaldo, a standout for Manchester United and Portugal, has won five Ballon d’Or awards in his career. For most of his two-decade football career, 37-year-old Ronaldo has been a footballing legend. The Portuguese player has won an incredible 32 honors for club and country since his debut in 2002. In 945 club appearances, he has scored 700 goals and provided 222 assists.

Ronaldo, a complete forward known for his shooting and heading, won his first award in 2008 after assisting Manchester United in winning a famous double. In 49 games during the 2007–2008 season, he made 42 goals and contributed eight assists. The former Sporting CP player earned four Ballon d’Or honors during his nine-year stay at Santiago Bernabeu after arriving at Real Madrid in 2009.

After scoring 106 goals in two seasons, Ronaldo received the prestigious title in 2013 and 2014 back-to-back. On the strength of two UEFA Champions League victories and one La Liga championship, he was once again chosen as the world’s best player in 2016 and 2017. The forward has additionally been second on the Ballon d’Or list six times. He placed second behind Kaka of AC Milan in 2007, Lionel Messi of Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2015, and Real Madrid ace Luka Modric in 2018.

Since 2004, Cristiano Ronaldo has appeared on the Ballon D’or shortlist each year and has won the prize five times. After a trophy-filled 2021–22 season, Real Madrid superstar Karim Benzema received his first Ballon d’Or prize on Monday in Paris (October 17). Benzema praised his former Los Blancos teammate Cristiano Ronaldo after earning the trophy. He asserted that the Portuguese’s exit from the team motivated him to work harder.

Getting to play with him was a privilege. He is an animal. The day he went, I started to feel like I could be more. The 34-year-old Benzema guided Real Madrid to a famous double last season with his exceptional performances on the field. In 46 games with Los Blancos in all competitions, he recorded 44 goals and 15 assists.
