On Wednesday in the 2-0 win over relegated Brescia, when Lazio forward Ciro Immobile was on target he closed to the Series A goal-scoring record for a single season.
One short of Napoli’s record of 36 for Gonzalo Higuain in the 2015-16 campaign Immobile took his tally to 35 for the season. Saturday’s final match with Lazio is away to Napoli.
Lazio had guaranteed a top-four finish.
With 78 points behind Atalanta, Lazio stayed fourth on their head-to-head record.
In the 17th minute, Immobile was involved in Lazio’s first goal by exchanging passes with Joaquin Correa who weaved his way through several defenders before scoring from close range. Following the re-start of the season, Lazio, who suffered a dip in form, started to look more like their old selves, creating several chances for their lead.
In the 82nd minute from a tight angle from Correa’s pass, Immobile skimmed the post before ending up on the scoresheet.
