Chelsea star Kalidou Koulibaly ready to claim top 4 position. Koulibaly believes Chelsea can still be among the top four. Despite their recent dismal record, Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly is adamant that the Blues can still place in the top four. The Premier League’s ninth-place team, led by Graham Potter, has struggled with consistency and form. As the battle for the top four intensifies, the Blues are seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

They have only had one victory in their last seven league games, and their most recent defeat came on Sunday when they drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest (January 1). Despite a challenging stretch for Potter’s team, Koulibaly is optimistic about Chelsea’s chances of finishing in the top four.

“It’s going to be a big task (to finish in the top four), but we like a challenge, and we constantly believe in ourselves,” the Senegalese defender said on the team’s website. The Blues’ upcoming match is against Manchester City, the defending champions, on Thursday (January 5). After 16 games, City sits in second place, seven points behind surprise leaders Arsenal.

Koulibaly admits that playing Pep Guardiola’s team would be challenging, but the Stamford Bridge giants will give it their all to win: “We must accept it, believe in our abilities, and make a concerted effort to advance. We will prepare for Man City, which will be a challenging game, and we will use every resource at our disposal to win and advance.”

After a disagreement with Thomas Tuchel, the former Chelsea manager, Romelu Lukaku was loaned out to Inter in the summer. In 2020, the Blues acquired the Belgian striker from the Nerazzurri for a club-record €113 million. Nevertheless, Lukaku’s second stint at Stamford Bridge was turbulent and unsatisfactory. He made 44 games, scored 15 goals, and provided two assists.

In a contentious interview, the former Manchester United striker expressed his displeasure with the system being used to play him and also lambasted Tuchel’s coaching. Since then, it had become obvious that the two had fallen out, and Inter was approved for a loan transfer.

Lukaku has stated his desire to stay at the San Siro past the season-long loan that ends at the end of the current campaign. Even though Potter took over for Tuchel in September, that is still the case. Everyone is aware of what I desire, the Belgian player told Sky Sports Italy. The team and I must now do all possible to help Inter win before speaking with Chelsea.

“I would like to remain here and do things correctly,” he continued. I want to work hard for Inter during the next six months in the hopes that we can talk to Chelsea at the end and come to a resolution. Due to a hamstring injury, Lukaku has only scored two goals and one assist in five games this season. But it seems that his playing days in west London are behind him.
