Chelsea prepares for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, after an enthralling and rain-soaked first leg in the Spanish capital. Following a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano last week, in which Christian Pulisic’s opener was canceled out by an equally impressive Karim Benzema end, the tie is delicately balanced. Here is everything you need to know about the Chelsea lineup and prediction against Real Madrid.

Team news

Chelsea lineup: Mendy; Silva, Rudiger, Christensen; Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kante, Chilwell; Mount, Pulisic; Havertz

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel hopes to bring Antonio Rudiger back for the visit of Real Madrid after the team missed the 2-0 victory over Fulham due to a knock.

On the other hand, Mateo Kovacic is ruled out for the hosts, who could field the same lineup as in the first leg.

Timo Werner will then play alongside Christian Pulisic on the offensive line.

Kai Havertz, who scored twice against the Cottagers, would be pressing to take the lead.

Real Madrid lineup: Courtois; Odriozola, Militao, Nacho, Mendy; Casemiro, Kroos, Modric; Asensio, Benzema, Vinicius Jr

In Saturday’s match against Osasuna Eden Hazard had a poor performance and it’s unclear if he’ll appear against his former club.

If Zinedine Zidane opts for a three-man backline once more Alvaro Odriozola could start at right-back or as a wing-back as a result of the absences of Lucas Vazquez and Dani Carvajal.

Sergio Ramos is also a doubt for Real Madrid, he had intended to play against Osasuna but was not included in the squad at the weekend.

Marcelo was supposed to sit out the Chelsea game entirely, but he will participate in the Madrid Assembly elections as a polling station volunteer.

Chelsea drew 1-1 in rain-soaked Madrid last week and the away goal would be a relief for Thomas Tuchel’s side. The Blues have only conceded five goals in Tuchel’s 11 games in London, all of which came in a 5-2 defeat to West Bromwich Albion in early April.

When Karim Benzema scored a splendid equalizer at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano, Los Blancos’ chances of reaching the Champions League final were boosted. In the last seven away matches Real Madrid has only scored two goals and is undefeated in their last nine, but they will need to find a way to crack down Chelsea’s resolute defense if they are to defeat the Blues.

Such a tactic could expose Zidane’s men to Chelsea’s pace on the offensive, and the Blues aren’t exactly known for their defense, so we can expect a slim victory for Tuchel’s crop as they prepare to travel to Istanbul.

Our Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Real Madrid
