Chelsea and Real Madrid after Josko Gvardiol. Croatian FIFA World Cup standoutis a target for both Chelsea and Real Madrid, but The Mirror claims that the Blues have an edge over Los Blancos. Due to Gvardiol’s performances for Croatia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, top teams have expressed interest in him. Among the teams eager to hire him are Chelsea and Real Madrid.
However, it doesn’t seem like Los Blancos’ desire for the RB Leipzig center defender is as strong as the Blues. According to reports, the Premier League’s juggernauts have already spoken with the player’s representation. Real Madrid is willing to wait until the summer, while Chelsea is rumored to make a January deal for Gvardiol. Leipzig is anticipating an approach from‘s team when the winter transfer window starts in two weeks, according to the aforementioned source.
The Stamford Bridge team thus seems eager to finalize a deal for Gvardiol as soon as possible. However, according to the report, Leipzig would rather approve a deal for the defender in the summer. The Blues’ ability to persuade the Bundesliga club to offload the 20-year-old in January is still to be seen. If Leipzig were open to a sale, they reportedly would be willing to offer Gvardiol a three-and-a-half-year contract.
On the other hand, a four-year contract for Gvardiol is being prepared by Carlo Ancelotti’s team for the summer. Additionally, Real Madrid is hoping that the youngster will be persuaded to join them at the Santiago Bernabeu by Croatian captain Luka Modric. In the meantime, whether Leipzig decides to sell him in January or not, the center-back will respect that choice. He is under contract with the German team through the 2026–2027 campaign.
Gvardiol performed admirably for Croatia during their recent FIFA World Cup 2022 campaign in Qatar. In seven games, he scored one goal and contributed to the team’s two shutouts. Top clubs in Europe are interested in the defender after he helped Croatia finish third in the World Cup. It is important to note that other teams are interested in him besides Chelsea and Real Madrid. Also said to be interested in the teenager are Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Manchester United, a rival team in the Premier League, has also been linked to a transfer for him. Leipzig might have to trade Gvardiol the next year if their interest in him doesn’t diminish. Nevertheless, they stand to make a sizeable profit on the £15 million they spent to get him in 2021.
