Champions League play-off recap: Hosts defeated their opponents

Champions League play-off round has been started on 17th Aug 2021 and after the 1st matchday report, we have recorded a recap of three matches played on the second day of leg 1. In the first playoff games for the Champions League, which were played on Wednesday all three hosts achieved victories.

Swedish Malmo defeated Bulgarian Ludogorets 2-0 with Brimancevic and Berget scoring the goals. In the 26th minute, Serbian midfielder Veljko Brimancevic took the lead and scored the opening goal. In the 61st minute, Norwegian striker Jo Inge Berget doubled the scoreboard and gave the Swedes a two-goal advantage.

Despite the elimination of Hefti in the 25th minute and being short on players, the Young Boys defeated Hungarian Ferencvaros 3-2 in Bern. When a penalty kick was awarded to the Hungarians the match score was 1-1, but Myrto Uzuni failed to realize it. In the 14th minute, the guests took the lead with the help of Boli, and already in the 16th minute, Elia equalized. In the 40th minute and the 65th-minute goals were scored by Sierro and Garcia respectively for the Young Boys leading the scoreboard by 3-1. The final 3-2 was set by Franck Boli with his second goal.

Benfica smashed PSV by a 2-1 match score in Lisbon in their first Champions League play-off. With 10 minutes in the match, Rafa Silva struck the net taking a lead for the host. In the 40th minute, Weigl doubled Benfica’s lead, and in the 51st minute Gakpo scored the only goal for PSV which leaves with good prospects in return.

Benfica vs PSV 2-1
Benfica beat PSV with two goals from Silva and Weigl over Gakpo’s one goal from PSV.

Malmo vs Ludogorets 2-0
Two goals of the 90 minutes match were scored by Birmančević and Berget for the hosts Malmo.

Young Boys vs Ferencvaros 3-2
Boli netted both the gaols for Ferencvaros while Elia, Sierro and Garcia were the scorers for the winners – Young Boys.
