Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, two of the main Champions League winners, will face each other in the group stage of this season’s competition after coming together in Thursday’s draw.

Pep Guardiola’s side knocked down PSG in the Champions League semi-final football match last season, on their way to a final loss to Chelsea in Porto. Both clubs are in Group A with RB Leipzig and Belgium champions Club Brugge.

Leipzig was already in group A with PSG last season, with both football teams qualifying for the Round of 16 against Manchester United. The Germans, who lost to PSG in the 2020 semi-finals in Lisbon, lost coach Julian Nagelsmann to Bayern Munich in the summer and were replaced by Jesse Marsh.

Chelsea will play Juventus in Group H and both clubs will be promoted from class A, which includes Russian champions Zenit St Petersburg and Malmö. The Swedish champions eliminated Rangers in the third qualifying round.

St Petersburg will host this season’s Champions League final on 28 May next year. Thursday’s Champions League group stage draw from Istanbul saw Barcelona come out in a fascinating Group E with Bayern Munich, Benfica, and Ukrainian champions Dynamo Kyiv.

It will be Barca’s first meeting with Bayern, as they were humiliated 8-2 by the German giants at the Estadio da Luz in Benfica, Lisbon, in the quarter-finals a year earlier. Liverpool will face Spanish champions Atlético Madrid, which means a return to the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, where they beat Tottenham Hotspur in 2019 final to win the European Cup for the sixth time.

Jurgen Klopp’s team will also play AC Milan and FC Porto in Group B. Milan are back in the Champions League for the first time since 2013/14. Manchester United came out in Group F with Villarreal, Atalanta, and Swiss champions Young Boys. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team lost to Villarreal on penalties in last season’s Europa League final. The first round of the group match will be played on September 14 and 15.

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
