Fabio Capello, former Real Madrid and Juventus head coach, have explained on Atalanta midfielder Remo Froehler’s penalty in the first leg of the Champions League 1/8 final against Madrid (0-1).
In the 17th minute, the 28-year-old received a straight red card from head referee Tobias Stieler for a foul on Ferland Mendy near the Bergamo team’s penalty area.
“The referee ruined the game. It’s yellow. It would have been great if Atalanta could have had such an important game in the same conditions as Real Madrid,” Capello said to Mundo Deportivo.
“Even Zidane couldn’t believe it! Did you see him laughing? Atalanta was unlucky, but there will be another game in Madrid. Anything can happen. It is enough to score and not concede.”
