Iconic Camp Nou stadium could be renamed in the future after Barcelona hero Lionel Messi, with presidential candidate Emili Rousard pledging to hold a vote on the matter if he wins the highly awaited January election.
Messi scored an impressive 640 goals and has long been Barcelona’s greatest player ever. He won 10 titles in the La Liga, six Copa del Rey, four Champions Leagues, and was also awarded the Ballon d’Or six times on record-breaking occasions.
It will be a fitting and enduring tribute to Messi, who when he left home in Argentina at the age of only 13, joined Barça’s youth ranks and Rousard is keen to create momentum ahead of the elections.
“We will hold a referendum to change the name of the stadium to ‘Camp Nou – Leo Messi’,” the candidate is quoted as saying by Marca.
