According to The Guardian, Emiliano Martínez is believed not to be on Saturday’s traveling team in front of Fulham. Brighton joined Aston Villa in the race to sign Arsenal’s goalkeeper.

Arsenal is seeking £20 m for the Argentinean and if they made him available Villa were favorites of landing Martínez.

They are seeking £15 m this week but Brighton has met their offer and with continuing transfer negotiations Martínez will not be included in the season opener at Craven Cottage.

Bernd Leno was unable to guarantee Martínez the time he was looking for to play and now he would begin the target campaign for Arsenal.

Martínez deputized for the injured Leno, helping Arsenal win the FA Cup final, and after a decade as a deputy or on loan, he wants No 1 status and was a revelation at the back end of last season.

But Mikel Arteta was unable to promise that he now looks likely to leave.
