Bellingham’s number 22 jersey to be removed from Birmingham City, ‘to honor one of our own and encourage others’, the club declared.

Announcing the news, the team also dedicated an article to its youngest ever player and goalscorer, on the website.

Another passage reads: “Jude has become an iconic figure at Blues in such a remarkably short space of time, showing what can be achieved through talent, hard work, and dedication.”

“The 22 shirt has become synonymous with Jude, his rise to the first team aged only 16 years and 38 days and those qualities. So as such the club decided that retiring this number would be appropriate, honoring one of our own and inspiring others.”

“He stayed concentrated and completely dedicated to the Blues cause during the elongated transfer process that finally rendered Jude the world’s most costly 17-year-old, demonstrating the importance of having a supportive family behind him.”

After months of rumors in which Jude was also linked with Manchester United, he confirmed his move to Dortmund on Monday.

Having featured in 44 games and scored four times, Bellingham march for his boyhood team.

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
