Benjamin Mendy is set to appear in Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, after being charged with two more counts of rape, The Athletic confirmed. On Tuesday it has been announced by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) that Benjamin Mendy has been charged with two more offenses of rape.

After being accused of four charges of rape and one count of sexual assault the Manchester City defender is being kept in custody. Cheshire Constabulary first accused Mendy in August in relation to alleged attacks that occurred between October 2020 and August 2021. The additional charges relate to alleged rapes that occurred within the same time period.

Premier League football club Man City had suspended the 27-year-old France international pending an inquiry at the time of the first charges. The Crown Prosecution Service said it had given permission for Mendy and another man, Louis Saha Matturie, to be charged with “new claims of serious sexual assault.”

“Benjamin Mendy, aged 27, has been charged with two additional counts of rape. Louis Saha Matturie, aged 40, has been charged with two additional counts of rape and one count of sexual assault,” the CPS stated.

Matturie now faces six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault and his alleged crimes are claimed to have occurred between March and August 2021. According to the CPS, both men have been summoned to appear in Stockport Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
