On Tuesday Bayer Leverkusen wins Saarbruecken 3-0 away to enter the German Cup final next month and bring the fourth division side’s fairytale run to a jolting end.

French winger Moussa Diaby brought Leverkusen ahead in the 11th minute and Lucas Alario added a second eight minutes later. Karim Bellarabi scored the last goal in the 58th minute, after that substitute.

To get the final four of the cup, Saarbruecken became the first squad from the fourth tier, capturing the scalps of two top-flight and two second-division clubs along the way.

Following the suspension of the German Regional League, it hadn’t been played for 94 days, and then suddenly stopped owing to the coronavirus health crisis.
