Barcelona’s dream out of the window from the Champions League

Barcelona’s dream is out of the window from the Champions League. Inter’s victory over Viktoria Plzen ensured that they would join Bayern Munich in the round of 16 and that Barcelona would be ousted from the Champions League.

Inter defeated the Czech team 4-0 in the early Wednesday kickoff thanks to goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku, and two goals from Edin Dzeko, earning them 10 points after five games. Barca is six points behind Inter in third place before their matchup with Group C leaders Bayern.

The Camp Nou team has been dealt a crippling financial hit by being demoted to the Europa League. In order to finance their spending binge in the window, Barca was obliged to sell off assets over the course of the summer, bringing in players like Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Jules Kounde in high-priced deals. However, the club’s anticipated earnings for this year will plunge without a Champions League bonanza, which might present significant issues for Xavi’s team.

Prior to their match against Bayern on Wednesday, Barca had dropped nine of their previous 12 meetings with the dominant German team in the Champions League. Bayern, which has fallen 10 times to Real Madrid, is the only team to have suffered more defeats at the hands of a single foe. After the disappointment of midweek, Barcelona will return to La Liga when Valencia visits Camp Nou on Saturday.
