Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong gets back to training. According to reports, Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona has shortened his mid-season holiday to come back to Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper in time for the start of club football. Like all significant European leagues, La Liga took a break in mid-November to prepare for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. On December 18, Argentina was proclaimed champion, setting the stage for club football to continue.

De Jong was among 16 Barcelona players that went to the World Cup to represent their home nations. However, after losing to Argentina in a penalty shootout, The Netherlands was eliminated from the competition in the quarterfinals. The Dutchman participated in each of his team’s five World Cup games and contributed one goal each while playing. Like his teammates, the former Ajax midfielder was given time off to rest up before the second half of the season.

De Jong has shortened his vacation to begin training with the Catalan giants on Tuesday, according to SPORT (20 December). He appears to be going above and beyond to elevate himself in Camp Nou.

In his midfield three, manager Xavi Hernandez has demonstrated a fondness for starting the Spanish trio of Gavi, Pedri, and Sergio Busquets. For playing time, De Jong also faces competition from Franck Kessie and Pablo Torre. The Dutchman, who was previously a regular starter for Barcelona, has only started 11 of a potential 20 games across competitions this year. This summer, he was prominently connected with a transfer to Manchester United, but he chose to stay with the Blaugrana instead.

Memphis Depay, a member of his international squad, is anticipated to return to Barcelona’s training sessions on Wednesday (21 December). However, Ousmane Dembele and Jules Kounde, who played for France in the final, are still on holiday. On December 31, Barcelona will begin their season against Espanyol in a Catalan derby.
