In the aftermath of Real Madrid’s La Liga title win following a series of internal discussions, Barcelona captain Lionel Messi said that after last week’s call for ‘a lot of changes’ at Camp Nou there’s nothing more to say.
Ahead of next month’s restart of the Champions League, the requisite adjustments should finally take place, this is the only thing that needs to happen now, insists Messi.
Barça is tied 1-1 with Napoli after a delicately balanced last 16 game.
This season, Barça has become a ‘very abnormal team that lets its head drop too easily,’ indicated Messi after the loss at Osasuna last Thursday.
The six-time winner of the Ballon d’Or also stated: “Clearly there is scope for change and we need to start talking about the Champions League. We just want to win this one. Yet we need to be self-critical, a lot of progress and a lot of change. I hope we get it all done in time.”
Now Messi is confident that all has been said that needed to be said.
“We have said what we needed to say. We have spoken internally and been self-critical. There is nothing more to say, but to show the change,” he told Movistar+. Following a resurgent 5-0 Barça win – albeit too little too late – against Alaves in the final game of the league campaign.
