Lionel Messi is facing tough competition from Polish footballer Robert Lewandowski for the Ballon d’Or award. Messi is eyeing this title for the seventh time. At the same time, Robert has also performed brilliantly in the last season. Poland and Bayern Munich’s prolific striker Robert Lewandowski may this time deny star footballer Lionel Messi the prestigious Ballon d’Or award.

Messi is six times the holder of the Ballon d’Or and is now eyeing to win this title for the seventh time. Last year it was canceled due to the coronavirus global epidemic but this year the award ceremony will take place. Argentina’s star footballer Messi is leading the race but he is facing tough competition from Lewandowski.

The Bayern Munich and Poland striker scored a record of 41 goals for the Bundesliga in just 29 matches last season. Lewandowski, 33, won the FIFA award as the best male player of 2020 as football news. After an impressive start to the new campaign, he has the support of both coach Julian Nagelsmann and Bayern Müller teammate Thomas Müller. Teammate Müller said that he has also scored 25 goals in 20 matches this season.

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have jointly won 11 titles out of the last 12 editions of the Ballon d’Or. The only exception to this was in 2018 when Luka Modric helped Real Madrid win another Champions League and took Croatia to the World Cup final. Modric was given the title that year. Coach Julian Nagelsmann said in an interview, “Robert deserves to win this award because he has been incredibly consistent in my opinion than any other player.”

At the same time, Argentine star footballer Messi, who joined Paris Saint-Germain after saying goodbye to Barcelona this year, scored 30 goals for Barcelona last season. Whereas this year he also managed to win the Copa del Rey. Apart from this, Messi won the Copa America title after 28 years by defeating Brazil.

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
