Arteta impressed with Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah. Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has given striker Eddie Nketiah his support in filling in for star attacker Gabriel Jesus. The 2022 FIFA World Cup caused the Brazilian international’s medial ligament to break, necessitating surgery and a lengthy recovery period. Nketiah is Arteta’s lone senior striker in the lineup while he is out.

The 23-year-old has spent the duration of his senior career at the Emirates playing as a backup striker. However, Arsenal said goodbye to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette through two transfer windows. Nketiah is anticipated to have more playing time as a result of Jesus’ extended absence from the game. This season, he has played in 12 league games, albeit only for a total of 141 minutes.

The Spanish tactician is certain that Nketiah can handle the assignment, though. He stated: “Eddie has a ready attitude. He is aware that it presents a significant opportunity for him at this time, and he needs to seize it, but given his daily training routine and style of thinking, we have no reason to doubt that he will be exceptionally prepared to succeed.” In the upcoming weeks, Arsenal has several crucial games scheduled, beginning with the league match against West Ham United in the London derby on December 26. The Gunners will have the opportunity to find a temporary substitute for Jesus during the January transfer window.

If they are astute, they might use such expenditure to identify a player who can eventually challenge the Brazilian for starting positions up front. Nketiah must convince Arteta that he is the right person for the job and that the team doesn’t need to spend money on a new forward. In December 2021, Torres left Manchester City to sign with Barcelona. He can play in the middle of the attack and out wide, as he did for Spain in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The 22-year-old attacker has more experience at the club and international levels. Arsenal would be prudent to not place all of their goal-scoring expectations on Nketiah in Jesus’ absence if they are serious about contending for the Premier League championship. In 18 games for the Catalan club this season, Ferran Torres has scored five goals and given one assist.
