Argentina, who took the lead on an early goal from superstar striker Lionel Messi, beat Uruguay 3-0 in the South American World Cup qualifiers football match while Brazil played out a goalless draw with Colombia, ending their nine-winning streak in a row. Brazil is on top of the qualification competition with 28 points from nine wins and one draw. They are still six points ahead of second-ranked Argentina.

Earlier, the match between Brazil and Argentina was postponed due to Covid-19 rules after only seven minutes of play. FIFA is yet to decide on this match. Ecuador is in third place with 16 points. Uruguay also has the same number of points but with fewer wins, they are in fourth place.

Colombia is placed fifth with 15 points. These three teams have played 11 matches. The top four teams will make a direct entry into next year’s World Cup in Qatar. The fifth-placed team can qualify through the intercontinental play-offs.

In the match against Uruguay, Messi took advantage of the mistake of the defense and scored the first goal for Argentina in the 38th minute. Messi slowly brought the ball forward from outside the box and slowly kicked the ball towards the goal post of Uruguay and the ball went into the goal post and at that time the Uruguay defender could not even stop the ball.

Luck favored Argentina in the 44th minute as well. After several mistakes in passing by both teams, Lautaro Martinez found the ball near the box. Lautaro failed to hit it properly but the ball went to Rodrigo de Paul who scored the goal.

Uruguay kept substitutes Edinson Cavani and Darwin Nunez in the front line in the second half but it was Argentina who scored. In the 62nd minute, Messi delivered a ball from the right side of the goal post to De Paul, who drove it into the penalty box, which was not scored by Lautaro Martínez, and the match ended on 3-0 football results. Argentina will next face Peru while Uruguay will play against Brazil.

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
