Former Argentina midfielder Ossie Ardiles has stated that Newcastle United has offered the opportunity to become the new head coach of the Premier League club to Mauricio Pochettino.
Last November Tottenham Hotspur sacked Pochettino but recently talked about a return to the Premier League, for the 2020-21 campaign.
Newcastle could soon become the wealthiest side on England’s top flight, with a Saudi consortium thought to be in talks with Mike Ashley over a takeover.
According to Ardiles, Steve Bruce is still in charge at St James’ Park yet the Magpies gave his close friend the opportunity to become their new manager.
“Mauricio is fine in England. He ‘s connected to Newcastle United and when he spoke directly to that club there were a lot of high-ranking people involved who made him a good offer,” Ardiles quotes The Mirror as saying.
“Mauricio had a (contractual) relationship with Tottenham, but his situation was unlocked last Tuesday and he is free to coach. He will hear offers again in this way, but Newcastle is a firm opportunity to work again. He will take his time to think and wait for a little for all this to happen.”
Before arriving in Tottenham, Pochettino also managed Southampton in the Premier League between January 2013 and May 2014.
