Roma striker Tammy Abraham has protested against the yellow card he received in the 1-0 loss to Bologna on Wednesday. Abraham finds his booking against Bologna “absolutely disgraceful”, because ironically, he claimed, he was the one who suffered a foul.
Watch the football highlights of this Roma-Bologna match yesterday, on Wednesday night, in the Italian top flight of Serie A.
The referee in this game, to add to Roma’s woes, convicted Tammy Abraham with a yellow card.
Abraham clashed with Bologna’s Mattias Svanberg just before half-time, which earned him a yellow card.
And because this was his fifth booking of the season, the warning card automatically suspended him against Inter this weekend.
Abraham Finds His Booking against Bologna “Absolutely Disgraceful”
Referee Luca Pairetto deemed the collision to be Abraham’s fault, because of which he will now miss a key game.
In a social media post after the match, the 24-year-old claimed he was the one fouled.
The Roma prodigy insisted that it was Mattias Svanberg from Bologna who fouled him, and not the other way around. The collision sent Svanberg to the ground, however Abraham has instead alleged that his opponent illegally blocked off his path.
So, after the defeat to Bologna, Abraham was still upset about the collision with Svanberg and his subsequent, undeserved, punishment.
“Yellow carded for this today and miss the next game”, wrote Abraham in a tweet. “When I was the one blocked and fouled. Absolutely disgraceful.”
This tweet, which he has since deleted, Abraham posted with ‘proof’ – he attached a video clip of the incident.
And this is not the first time that Abraham has been impacted by referee and VAR decisions (the football news).
Now though, the forward will not be able to face the Italian champions next weekend because of the booking. And he calls this sitting out for Roma against Inter unfair.
Meanwhile, despite his disappointment on Wednesday, Abraham has started his Roma career in good form. He joined the Serie A club from Chelsea in the summer, scoring eight goals and supplying two assists across competitions.
Also, Roma are currently six points back from fourth-placed Atalanta in Serie A.
Although, they have enough points to advance past the group stage in the Europa Conference League.
