In smaller clubs, which are likely to face a greater threat of falling out of a competition, clauses that require salary reductions are normal.

Arsenal players, if they are dropped from the Premier League, are reportedly likely to face a radical pay cut.

Arsenal, however, who are considered one of the ‘big-six clubs’ of the Premier League, had hoped to qualify for European qualification – preferably to be in the mix for the Champions League places.

If the unimaginable happens, some players will be forced to take 25 percent reductions, and Mikel Arteta’s side, currently, 15th in the table and four points clear of the relegation zone will drop out of the top flight.

The Daily Mail reports that the financial disruption that relegation will bring has been forestalled by Arsenal which has now incorporated pay-cut clauses in player contracts.

Writing about football is one of my favorite things to do. As a football writer, I love the rush of being in the stadium on game day and watching all the action live. It's like no other feeling for me. I'm passionate about writing about it, but until recently I've been doing it as a hobby rather than a profession.
